Perfect Moments

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Between Eternities” and is available for purchase by following the instructions at the bottom of the article.

Meditation. The word conjures up mental images of a Yogi or martial arts master sitting in a candlelit room while incense laden smoke curls towards the heavens. Or in the modern era a vision of Yoda perfecting his mastery of the Force. But in reality it’s just deep contemplation and relaxing the mind. Techniques vary. Some people are more formal and emulate the examples above while blocking the outside world with iron willed discipline. Others engage their creative drive and get lost in process of skillfully bringing a work of art into the world. Some simply toss a line into the water and work to prefect the retrieve in an effort to cause a fish to rise.

Whatever it is that a person does to unwind and settle the mind is a form of meditation. In my youth I read a lot of martial arts stuff and there was always a section on meditation instructing you sit this way and breathe that way and if you do it just right time will freeze and you’ll have a perfect moment. In reality, I fell asleep a lot. If that perfect moment ever happened to me I snored right through it. In my dreams Mr. Miyagi did a face palm and muttered in Japanese.

Some time later I realized that all that was really needed was to unplug for a little while. I revitalized my walk with God and that allowed me to begin to talk with God as opposed to talking at God. I began to understand that prayer and meditation are two sides of the same coin. It wasn’t a breathing technique and you don’t have to focus on a flame until you go cross eyed. You just need to relax and have a conversation with your friend. Time doesn’t really freeze but don’t be surprised if you don’t notice it’s passage.

  1. There is nothing like being in the presence of God and listening to his voice and conversing with him. The Eastern religions want you to empty your mind. God wants to fill us with his goodness. We fill the atmosphere with praises to him and his presence is there.
