Almost as if in defiance the overcast skies and gray weather the little Bradford Pears have exploded into bloom. And what’s even better is that it is starting to get green leaves. What the little tree lacks in food production and lumber value it makes up for in its ability to brighten up the bleak landscape of early Spring. After a long dark stretch of looking at empty branches and dried winter grasses the few green leaves tucked in around the clusters of white flowers had me feeling like schoolboy who was let out of class early. I have checked out the edge of my forest and the trout lilies are just breaking through the leaf litter in the shady spots. The grass is also waking up and soon it will be time to trade the snow blade on my little lawn tractor for a mowing deck. That will be a good trade.
As the days move forward I hope to the opportunity to catch more of the native flowers opening up as my mountain returns to life.

I captured some of those earlier this week as well. It was also an overcast day. I’m so ready for some consistent sunshine.

Overcast days are great for photography but hard on the spirit. Just keep in mind that the best is yet to come. ❤
