“Timy life is important life” I thought to myself as a slowly crept up on the little orange butterfly. The tiny wings were only about the size of a US quarter but intricately ornate. The cool shadows of Panther Mountain kept the little beauty busy slowly pumping it’s wings to circulate warmth as it fed. It didn’t really seem to mind the giant hovering above it edging his lens ever closer. The tiny butterfly is one of main pollinators of the asters which seem to thrive on my mountain well into December and sometimes into Spring. I look at how detailed the wings are and my science side marvels at how much those patterns help him hide from predators and my spiritual side thinks about how much care God put into designing his color scheme. Insects use more of the spectrum than we do. Their world is one of reflections and shadows and the highlights of the wings make the Crescent Butterfly resemble a flower pedal to the hungry onlookers. The little butterfly finally decides that his camouflage doesn’t fool me and deftly angles it’s wings and is lifted into the air now resembling a fallen leaf.
If God put so much effort into the tiny life in my lens how much more did he care for mankind?
