And Then On Day… Daisies!

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Visiting The Daisy 6220” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The late Spring sun smiles across the mountains filling each little crevice with the life giving warmth. The daisies seem to pop up over night. You just look up one day and there they are standing tall and proud. The tiny solitary bee looks like she’s hit the jackpot while walking around on the golden center of the flower. She treads softly while gently grooming the flower to create more pollen and nectar for her. It’s a big job for a little bee but when it’s a job that you love the effort doesn’t bother you.

A Beckoning

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled ” Philadelphia Fleabane 52620a”

The soft breeze stirs up the scent of pollen hanging in the humid air. The the little fleabane flowers sway and dance as if they can hear the angels sing in unison. All of glory responds to the summons with a voice unheard by human ears but felt on the soul. A beckoning if you will. Still the mind and open up the door for the king of glory desires your company today. The dust of yesterday in the corners are of no consequences. He only wishes to share breath today, And every day after.

Do You Like Butter?

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Buttercup 5920” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

There was test that all Appalachian kids had to pass. In the Spring when the Buttercups were in bloom we had to pass a trial by nature in order to find the answer to one of life’s most important questions. “Do you like butter?” If the buttercup casts a yellow glow onto your chin then all who were gathered could see that the answer was yes. Amazingly, everyone passed! We all liked butter. Not margarine ( which is now referred to as “plant butter”.) It had to be “actual butter from the utter”.

Those were the days when magic was real. A buckeye in your pocket was a sure way to have good luck and a Granddaddy long legs ( also known as a harvestmen) could certainly point you in the direction of lost cattle.

Every Spring my lawn is blessed with a carpet of Buttercups. The bright yellow polka dots always make me feel like a kid again. And while the buttercup’s powers of divination are based on childhood games and excuses to giggle they do still have the magical ability to make me smile.

The Jacob’s Ladder Has Bloomed

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Jacob’s Ladder 42720a” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The Sun was still shining a few days ago as I looked upwards into the steep landscape. Cardnials played in the thicket near the bench on the edge of my property. An event that I have been watching for since Christmas was now taking place. The Jacob’s Ladder that I spotted in December wad finally in bloom.

Image Titled “Jacob’s Ladder 42720b” showing a closer look at the bloom.

I have lived on this mountain for about 27 years and I’m only just now getting a little time to explore and survey the all the little niches. I’m truly amazed at the variety of life there is just outside my door. All of the common little things that I’ve seen on a daily basis but never really paid attention to seem to jump out of the background and exclaim “Check me out!” It’s really an advantage of having a little extra time this year.

Thoughts On Life-Time In The Forest

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Wild Ginger 42720” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

As I enter my little forest sanctuary the rapid growth of the forest floor simply amazes me. It’s hard to believe that just a month ago the ground was bare except for a few patches of moss and some of the earliest flowers. Now the Wild Ginger is so thick that I can barely walk without stepping on it. I have come here for 2 reasons. Part of the plan is to check the plants for that familiar chocolate brown flower that this plant is known for but mostly I’m here for a little Life-time. For those who have never heard me use the term Life-time is the time you spend experiencing life instead of the life you spend witnessing time. The difference being in the amount of life we acquire as opposed to the time we expend. One of cruelest lies ever told was that life was a measure of existence rather than experience. As I look over the the patch of ground at my feet and consider how think the vegetation has become I’m struck by fact that nobody interferes with the plants here. I give it no water. I don’t add fertility or remove pests. I don’t really do anything here beyond my occasional walk through. As opposed to our farms and gardens where we try to control every little process. Perhaps if can learn how to let go of our urge to control things ourselves and work within the systems of nature instead of against them there would be more life to our time.
