Twilight falls on the Kanawha River at Glen Ferris. The failing light casts a purple hue across river and mountains. The river is up slightly but it doesn’t rage. Instead the water laps gently against the rocks. The turbines are silent and even the falls seem to submit to quiet mood as shadows wax long on the water. Beneath the surface pearch and walleye patrol the walkway and the roots of the willows on the opposite shore. Somewhere deep in the forest a screech owl belts out his eerie song to the moonlight clouds overhead. The night air is oddly warm for an early March evening and I hear a few frogs singing in the swampy backwaters on the edges were the river meets the forest. But March is a season of flux and I know that the warm air is only a sign of the coming snowfall. Old Man Winter it seems will not go away quietly this year.

Beautiful picture, Lloyd, very different to what we normally see. I love the mixture of varying shades of purple and a melancholy orange.

Thank you Sophia ❤ The orange color comes from a nearby sodium light. I used a long exposure to let it get really rich into the image.

Thank you very much ❤ before the covid-19 down I drove from Nicholas County to Charleston everyday to work. I’m working out of my home now and don’t get down that way as often.
