The Jacob’s Ladder Has Bloomed

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Jacob’s Ladder 42720a” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The Sun was still shining a few days ago as I looked upwards into the steep landscape. Cardnials played in the thicket near the bench on the edge of my property. An event that I have been watching for since Christmas was now taking place. The Jacob’s Ladder that I spotted in December wad finally in bloom.

Image Titled “Jacob’s Ladder 42720b” showing a closer look at the bloom.

I have lived on this mountain for about 27 years and I’m only just now getting a little time to explore and survey the all the little niches. I’m truly amazed at the variety of life there is just outside my door. All of the common little things that I’ve seen on a daily basis but never really paid attention to seem to jump out of the background and exclaim “Check me out!” It’s really an advantage of having a little extra time this year.

Emerald Dreams

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Emerald Dreams 42820” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The harsh landscape has now softened in the rain.

The cage of thorns and branches has given way to softer coverings of the emerald canopy above.

The ancient red maple in the park has cooled it’s fiery buds in the Spring showers and cast it’s keys to the wind.

And I? I await my chance to roam freely through the green sea of living things. And sit quietly on the rocks to listen for secrets in the wind.

The secrets whispered by the trees in a code of whistles and creaks. They recount tales of love and war and love again in the cycles of men and women who tread the path beneath the branches and boles.

They speak of new life in the forests and streams. Lives that kick up their heels and dance to the tune that only the wild ones hear.

They tell of the wings that come in the thousands. Some looking for nectar and others that not so benevolent and yet every bit as much a part of the master plan as dew which falls in evening and stays til morning light breaches the emerald canopy and starts the day fresh and new.

Thoughts On Life-Time In The Forest

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Wild Ginger 42720” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

As I enter my little forest sanctuary the rapid growth of the forest floor simply amazes me. It’s hard to believe that just a month ago the ground was bare except for a few patches of moss and some of the earliest flowers. Now the Wild Ginger is so thick that I can barely walk without stepping on it. I have come here for 2 reasons. Part of the plan is to check the plants for that familiar chocolate brown flower that this plant is known for but mostly I’m here for a little Life-time. For those who have never heard me use the term Life-time is the time you spend experiencing life instead of the life you spend witnessing time. The difference being in the amount of life we acquire as opposed to the time we expend. One of cruelest lies ever told was that life was a measure of existence rather than experience. As I look over the the patch of ground at my feet and consider how think the vegetation has become I’m struck by fact that nobody interferes with the plants here. I give it no water. I don’t add fertility or remove pests. I don’t really do anything here beyond my occasional walk through. As opposed to our farms and gardens where we try to control every little process. Perhaps if can learn how to let go of our urge to control things ourselves and work within the systems of nature instead of against them there would be more life to our time.

The Lesson Of The Sun Catcher

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Sun Catcher 42820” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The afternoon sun fills the valley as the big blue truck drifts along the berm of the Midland Trail. The Spring rain will return but for now the sundrops dance on the surface of the river giving it a magical appearance in my lens. The three rivers are swollen with the rain but not to point if rage. It’s just enough to cover the rocks and make it look more like a lake with three arms. Most of land is fully awake and the Redbud has dropped it’s bloom in favor of the heart shaped leaves. It’s those leaves that caught my attention. Backlit by the sun they seem to hold onto the light in a warm embrace. The light is their life and purpose in this world. Without it they cannot grow. But they can’t survive without the rainy days either. Even on the banks of the three rivers they would wilt and die without a balance of the rain and sun. As I gaze at the glowing leaves they seem to whisper the secret of becoming strong. It’s a balance of embracing the light as it is given and accepting the rain when it falls.

We don’t get to choose between the two and one without the other would be a disaster for us. We have to learn to rejoice in both.

After The Rain

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “After The Rain 41120″and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The steady droning of the rain on the roof slowly fades as the breaks through the gaps in the window treatments. When I open the window the cool air spills into the room filling the house with the wonderful fresh smell outside air. The songbirds begin to gather and celibate the sunshine.

My big blue truck has been feeling neglected over the past several weeks so I jump in and take a short hop to the other side of the mountain. The Redbud was still in bloom as I passed by the the little stream that runs to Peter’s Creek. One of the advantages of living in a remote area is the freedom to simply stop in the middle of the road and and enjoy the scenery. I queued up a little Jamie Dupuis and let him play his amazing harp guitar in the background.

As music played softly I just took in all the fresh air and allowed the tranquility of the moment to soak deeply into my spirit.

After a few minutes it was time to clear the road and return home to finish up the days tasks. I turned the big blue truck and headed back, carrying a spirit full of peace with me.
