The Playful Spirits Of Panther Mountain

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “A Taste Of Clover 73122” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Dust rises up from the road on Panther Mountain as the big blue truck finds a spot to halt the climb. Mottled sunlight filters down to illuminate small treasures tucked away here and there throughout the forest. Each sunbeam holds a tiny world of its own fully of fairyflies, ferns and the odd forest flowers. The road offers enough of a break in the canopy to allow the red clover to claim its stand at the foot of a knoll. There beneath the maples and oaks the pale ones dance and play in the warm breeze that flows up from the canyon below. In North America we call them Cabbage White Butterflies because when they find a garden they can be a pest but here on the edge of a mountain pass they take on the persona of a playful spirit following the track of the sun as it’s beams bath the clover in life giving radiance. All that they need is given to them by the hand of God and their peace is fulfilled.

Within The Ripples

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Within The Ripples 71521a” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Cool green pools beckon the weary of heat and humidity. A chance to simply take the step and be immersed within the rippling stream in cool shade in that spot where the springs join the creek. The ripples echo laughter of years gone by when children raced sticks and leaves within the the current’s flow. Small fish look in awe at the new object which is intruding on their domain. To them the giant is all toe. “What’s a toe?” One fish asked. To which the other replies, “It’s like a fin only thick and stubby.” Having satisfied their curiosity they swim off to the shelter beneath the limbs and leaves that gently touch the surface. As the cool water refreshes the body eyes glance along the pebbles in memory of past treasures found. A small fossil here or a worn arrowhead there. Bits of glass polished as they tumble down the stream bed. All would have been carried home and tucked away in a special place many years ago. The bottom of a stream is like the lost and found department of the forest. A place where children of all ages can become an archeologist as they escape the sun’s gaze for just a few moments. The ripples touch everything including those who lose themselves and are carried away from the outside world.

Evening Song

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Evening Song 70621” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

The cool breeze gently flutters the forest canopy and delivers the sweet scent of wildflowers to the shore of the big lake. Somewhere in the distance I hear the sweet sounds of the whip-poor-will whose joined by a chorus of crickets. A lone bullfrog provides the base section at the evening concert on the lake. The song of nature is a lullaby for the sun as it casts its paint across the mountaintops. Ripples play in the fading light to mimic the campfires. The old monster catfish lurking on the bottom rolls to surface with splash in celebration of being the one that got away again. The shallows are as warm as bathwater for the big turtle. He’s content to stay in the water right where he’s been all day. As the stars emerge from the deep blue cloak of twilight I know that the time has come to return to the big blue truck and rejoin the hearts that wait for me there.

The Secret

Gentle breezes play in the trees as the chattering of a kingfisher echoes along the stream. The wind curls its way across the field shaking the standing hay and comes to rest near the edge of road while whispering peace to all it touches. Golden pedals spread themselves before the gaze of the sun and call to the troubled soul to come and feel the embrace of both sun and breeze. The black eyed susans whisper in voices of their own the secret that peace is always there and can only be found by those who look for it.

Behind The Vines

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Canadian Moonseed 61621” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Tread softly on the little path that leads to that spot where the outside world cannot go. Sit quietly among the vines and listen to the voices of the forest. The Jays will let you know if there’s anything amiss. The frogs will tell you if it’s about to rain. It’s all you need in the way of a news report. Downy fairyflies float by on gentle breezes and seem to glow magically as the golden sunbeams catch their wooly coats. The tiny wasps are smaller than gnats but are easily spotted in the light.

A soft scratching near the place where water seeps from painted sandstone and movement beneath the decaying leaves reveals a spotted salamander sheltering from the sun. He looks your way and seems to wink as he disappears into damp earth.

The woodpecker drums out his messages that echo throughout the whole forest and the sunbeams show only a flash of crimson feathers as he too vanishes behind the boughs.

The smell of the moss and abundant life finally fill the heart with peace and tranquility. One could spend all day in that little spot just behind the vines.
