Pause For A Few Moments Of Tranquility

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Pause 52521a” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

The little alcove stands as a hidden world near the highway. Only a few short steps away the big trucks roar by with tons of wood, coal and steel with nothing but the white line to serve as the barrier. On one side of the line life flies by controlled by the schedules that demand to be met and bright yellow metals. On if which is merely reflective paint adorned by commanding black lines in bold clarity. The living things are bound to machines and hurled towards the goal by controlled explosion within the heart of a mechanical beast. The thunder of wheels echo loudly in a mimicry of living. But on the other side walls of ivy covered stone gaurd the secret sanctuary. Damselflies float in the constant breeze that follows a small stream as it cascades its way through ancient hills and spills into the pool. The drumming of droplets on the earthen floor envelopes everything that flies, floats or stands within the isolated realm of the pool. And those who free themselves from the exploding world of iron and asphalt can sit quietly by the pool and find a moment of tranquility inside the barriers of stone. Breathe deeply and know that you belong here for at least a few moments.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

A Few Minutes Of Solitude

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Solitude 100820bw” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

I stand on the little bridge that crosses Peter’s Creek looking in the direction of the falls downstream. The warm autumn sun bathed landscape as the gentle breeze flowed over the mountains connecting all things. Each sound from the surrounding forest told it’s own story. A redtailed hawk cries out as it finds its strength in the wind. Small fish leap from the water and land with a tiny plop on the surface. The catbird just beyond the trees rings out its ever changing melody as the first of leaves to fall provide a rhythm for his tune. Gazing into the surface of the water I read the ripples eminate from the stones that peirce the surface. Their gentle influences mellow out into a uniform pattern that holds my attention. The breeze shifts again and delivers the scent of hay drying in a nearby field. It lasts only for a moment. The voices of nature are the whispers of God speaking peace to the troubled soul. A few moments of solitude are all it takes if you choose to receive his words.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

A Journey To The Quiet Place

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “A Quiet Moment 112520bw” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Simple pleasures are greatly valued. The stillness of the human spirit is a rare opportunity in today’s world. The outside voices call constantly to look here or listen to that. Flesh and blood are merely a vehicle for experience. We become what we see and hear. And there are so many voices that try to mold our spirits to fit their vision. Voices that command us to buy, voices that command us to speak or watch and listen so that we may become. Wear what they say and bear their marks. Add your voice to ours and be heard. They tell us to conform or be an outcast. The messages will hold us down if we let them. So I entered the park as escapee and not an outcast. And I found that as I allowed their voices to fade into echoes I felt somewhat lighter. I knelt down by the river and washed away all the marks they attempted to place in my heart. Behind this shield of silence my own thoughts return like an old friend in joyful reunion. We found the beach and allowed the small patterns of current in the river to mesmerize our attention. Reflections sway slightly to the motion of the water and the secret world welcomes the return of a lost child who wandered in the shadows of schedules and meetings. But if we can find that quiet place we will find our true self waiting to re-emerge. We remember that we are that spirit that’s having a human experience. There is strength in that quiet place.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

A Few Minutes Of Forest Tranquility

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Crimson Archway 113020” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

The forest is silent as the mists softly settle on sparse leaves. The remanent leaves of the young trees stand out like glistening gems against the bland background of the sleeping mountains. The falling mists are cool on my skin and I can detect the faint smell of the fresh earth coming up through the leaves. Somewhere in the canopy a fairdiddle barks his displeasure at my presence. Looking up through the bare limbs I notice the shaking of a bushy tail. He thinks he’s well hidden. When I sit still enough for long enough the tufted titmouse will come and forage the bushes. I remember when one in particular became fascinated with the laces of my boots while I was on my deer stand. He kept tugging at the ends without realizing he was perched on my leg. He would have kept it up until he untied it if I hadn’t snickered. I take the time to notice how water collects on the leaves until it’s heavy enough to roll down. It’s just the beginning of December on the day I took the photo but I’m already noticing changes to certain buds that foretell the upcoming late season blooms. There are certain flowers that only bloom in late fall and climatic winter. Life is in constant change. If things are not changing they are dead. I take a deep breath and enjoy the scent of the forest once more to hold the tranquility in my spirit and its time to walk back to the big blue truck and move on to my next destination.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Foxtail In My Memory & My Moment

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Fixtail 112920bw” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

A cold north wind catches my ear and whispers “The long night is coming”. The sting of old man winter’s icy breath burns my exposed skin as I kneel slightly to find my subject. A simple frond of foxtail grass growing near the road. The interesting texture and graceful arc of the seedhead in the failing light was irresistible. I’m always taken back to my paternal Grandmother’s house where these grew on the edge of the yard just beyond the apple trees. Perhaps I idealize things in distant memory but I remember them as being back-lit by the evening sun. I also remember the way they tickled in late summer when they brushed against bare legs. Its odd the way you think that you’ve forgotten a specific moment in your life until someone random object unlocks the past. However, there’s no risk of bare legs being tickled today. As the wind settled for a moment I found my moment and snapped the shutter.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days
