The First Bloom Of 2021

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “First Bloom 22321a” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

The wind rages on the ridges of my little slice of Appalachia. The tall timber sways in ever changing patterns as the gales attempt to wake them from their deep slumber. But beneath the shadow of the mountains a single ray of light has gently been coaxing my winter honeysuckle bush. I wander out along the edges between the forest and the yard and cautiously approach the bush so as not to disturb any of birds that like to nest in its tangled branches. It was when I saw the tiny white spots among the green leaves that I knew why I’d been called to this bush. The small dainty flowers were just starting to open up and that howling breeze now feels a little warmer.

Image Titled “Winter Honeysuckle 22321b”.

In her modest glory this honeysuckle bush never fails to be the first bloom on my place. It’s a major tickmark of my natural calendar that tells me to start getting things ready for the coming changes. She’ll soon be hosting the first bees to awaken which are usually the leafcutter bumblebees. They have a thicker fur than the others and are usually the first to leave the underground nests in the early part of the year. She’ll be ready and waiting to feed them as soon as they emerge. Typically we still have two more snowfalls before winter fades completely but it will be here before you know it.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

The Embers In Late February

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Sleeping Embers 22321” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Deep beneath the ice and snow the embers sleep. All through the rain and wind they lay smoldering. The late winter winds push back the clouds as the sun beams down into the depths of their soul. The kindling has begun. The age old flame passed down from generations forgotten in the mists of the changing seasons is called upon to once again burn brightly against the cold dew of Spring. It will take a little while longer before they emerge. It’s still early and they are just embers for now but the buds are beginning to swell and in more or less 60 days the flame azaleas will burst forth like a phoenix and feed the new butterflies. But for now they smolder and gather strength from the changing sun.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

A Breath Of Summer

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled Red-winged Blackbird In Flight 70229″ and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

A warm breeze tickles the reeds that rise from the muddy shore of the marsh. All around me the sweet song of the red-winged blackbirds echo from every patch of brush and rush in the wetlands. The perfume of the swamp rose fills the air and its just the right time of day when the sun is out but it’s not too hot. The steady breeze continues to fill the landscape and connects all things. Even the fish playfully leap from the water to feel the wind in their faces. Life is in the living I’m told. The lesson from the summer breeze is to take time to breathe and be a part of God’s creation.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

I am adding additional social media to my network. Eventually, I’ll be leaving Facebook behind for a multitude of reasons. Even though the Lloyd’s Lens Photography page is strictly non-political I have been restricted from interacting with followers with no explanation for why. But it’s not just that. For years now Facebook has throttled content providers in general. They encourage us to grow our audience and then want to sell us back the access to them. In addition, they collect and sell the data from our interaction. So Facebook has become an entanglement of thorns. In response I have created the Lloyd’s Lens Photography Discussion Group on MeWe. We can still interact directly on the blog but starting today I’ll be looking for more platforms that respect the privacy of my followers and don’t limit who gets to see the post.

A Treasure In The Clearing

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Sunshine In The Distance 91120” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

To walk along a forest path and feel the trail pulling me towards a new world is freedom. There is no agenda or schedule to maintain. Only nature’s caress in the soft touch of a new leaf that brushes my shoulder as I slip through the opening in the dense vegetation. The scent of moss which is still wet with the morning dew under the shade of a thick canopy of hardwoods. The small birds flit about clearing out of my way as a come through. But their curiosity anchors them to the lower branches. They look on in wonderment at the camouflage of my shirt and hat. Surly they think that a tree has uprooted itself and now walking through their domain. A blue jay is enraged by my showing up unannounced and circles my position while calling out a dire warning that whatever that walking thing is he doesn’t trust it. The chickadees snicker at him and continue to do as they please. Only, they do it a little deeper in the bushes. Out beyond the place where storms toppled a massive tulip tree the sun beams in with full glory. A single yellow butterfly commands the attention of each and every wildflower that grows in the clearing. This is the treasure that the path has called me to today. A simple bit of golden sunbeam that has sprung to life.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Things Are Just Ducky #17 It’s Tomorrow Already

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “The Quiet Contemplation Of A Duck 122920” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

George the Mallard stood quietly on the muddy shore of the big lake. He looked at serine ripples on the water and listened to the whispers in the wind. “It’s seems like today was only a moment ago and now it’s tomorrow already. ” he thought to himself. The ripples continued to lap gently against the mud as he watched and thought about how how each little ripple washed away part of the place where he stood. He began to think about how temporary everything is. He thought about life and how temporary it was also. Then George had the greatest thought that had ever come to him. He realized that he was literally as free as a bird. He could do almost anything he wanted to. If felt like flying he would fly. If he felt like swimming then he would swim. He could nap when he felt like it and so on. Whatever it was that made him happy he could do so as long as he didn’t interfere with anyone else. One day the water would wash away the spot where he stood but it’s not today. He could choose happiness. Life is too short to stand still and watch the mud slip away when there’s nothing you can do to stop it. So why waste precious time being miserable?

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.
