Life Begins Anew

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Life Begins Anew 33021” and is available for purchase by clicking on the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

As the new light fills my landscape the waking forest begins to send out new life. For the first year ever my volunteer apple tree has produced bloom on every branch. The sweet blossoms are absolutely alive with bumblebees. These little wonders are seeing the world for the first time. Most queen bumblebees nest underground in winter in a borrowed hole. It’s in that dark underground place where they lay and tend the new life that is to emerge in Spring. When the brood hatches they collect pollen and nectar to bring back to hive.

With this being Easter weekend the symbolism isn’t lost on me. Jesus also borrowed a hole in the ground where he brought forth new life. I’ve often contemplated that the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter morning had to be the darkest day in history. To the natural world there had been a darkness that fell across the land and an earthquake that destroyed the temple. The believers had seen the Messiah slain and sealed in a tomb. But much like the new light of Spring and the new life emerging from the ground Christ arose and with him a new world for mankind. Not a word ran by the law of man but by the Grace of God and merciful judgment. And just like the new brood of bumblebees we are new eyes exploring a new world.

Happy Easter friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Easter 2020

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Easter Lilies 32120” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

Certainly Easter Sunday 2020 will live in our memories for a long time. Up until now, I have purposefully avoided talking about Covid 19 on my blog. I’ve done so because I wanted my photos and stories to be a place where people can escape the major concerns of the day and find some peace of mind. But tonight I feel the need to acknowledge the world situation. Tonight, Christian people from all over the world find themselves facing the reality that the cherished tradition of a sunrise service on Easter Sunday is distributed. There will be live broadcasts on social media and we’ll make the best of the situation but it won’t really be the same. In short, We’re having a “Day 2 experience”.

When Christians celebrate the passion of Christ we talk about the crucifixion and we rejoice the Resurrection. However, we don’t really seem to give much thought to the day between these two events.

Day 2 had to be the darkest day in Christianity. The Messiah had been publicly executed and sealed in a tomb. He was betrayed by one of his own. His followers including the 12 disciples had been scattered and were in hiding. For all they knew the soldiers would come for them next. And, this all occurred in the middle of a disaster. The bible says that when Jesus died the sky turned black and the earth shook.

Today, we have this pandemic that will keep most of us secluded. We hide our faces when we go out. We’re threatened with forced quarantine if we assemble together. It is indeed a dark day in history… But just wait. Day 3 is near. On day 3 we get the greatest miracle of them all. The Light returns. The Light that is the life of all men.

When we read the biblical account day 3 is somber at first but it ends in joy. And so this Easter I want to encourage you to be strong of heart. The season of darkness and the sickness that plagues us is coming to a close. Our lives will change and it’s likely that we’ll have to deal with aftermath but eventually that too will pass. We have God’s promise that the end will be better than the beginning so we can look forward and live in hope that He will perform what He promised.

The Bunny

The office of my day job is located in a reclaimed strip mine. What was once spoiled land is now a virtual wildlife preserve on the edge of the city. This little bunny lives raises it’s family on our parking lot. Every morning she can be seen munching on the clover with her brood. I wouldn’t say that she’s tame but she is accustomed to the presence of humanity. She actually allowed me to get pretty close for this shot. She had developed a little bit of trust in the workers who came to hwr home every day. Trust is a very fragile quality for as soon as I moved she took off like nobody’s business. I’ll continue to watch her and her babies and who knows, perhaps one day she’ll trust me enough to get even better shots.

Life Returns

“And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.” Mark 16:6

We have a tendency to think of Mary and her companions walking mournfully through a beautiful garden to meet the angel. But I think it was much bleaker than that.

The morning had finally arrived. The small party of four people walked along the dusty road carrying the supplies needed to care for the body which was in the borrowed tomb. It had to be the worst weekend in history. They had lost a son, brother, teacher and friend to an angry mob. The murder was brutal and carried out in full view of the public. The landscape they passed through had suffered earthquakes and unnatural darkness. The main temple was in ruins. The vail that protects the holiest of holies was utterly destroyed and the sacred place violated. If you have lived through a natural disaster then you have an idea of the shock and fear. There’s such a sense of instability that it’s overwhelming. This was so much worse. They would have passed by families who were beginning the clean up process. Families would have been huddled around those who needed comfort. The men would be trying to rebuild while on the lookout for looters. The Roman soldiers would be trying to keep order while offering assistance.

As they arrived at the tomb and saw the stone removed it would have at first seemed like the earthquake had shaken it loose. The next thought would have been of Vandals. But then the angel spoke and hope returns to the world like the morning sunshine. The dark clouds are burned away and light washes through the land.

Day Two, A World In Darkness

“And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.”

Mark 15:33

The day after the Crucifixion of The Lord Jesus Christ had to be the most depressing day in history. The Messiah was dead. Hope, healing and restoration was gone. The disciples were scattered. The Roman Empire had placed guards at the door of the tomb. I can’t imagine the despair of those who walked with Jesus and helped feed the multitude, listened to the teachings and saw the miracles. Hope wasn’t just lost. It was taken by force. The twelve apostles were being hunted down and it’s a safe assumption that a similar fate was planned for them.

When I face dark times in my life and my own faith is being tested I try to put myself in the shoes of the twelve apostles on day two. Even though they had been told what the future held they couldn’t see the outcome. We know how the story ends. We know that victory is on the way. But sometimes our human nature blinds our faith and our perception is a world in darkness. Hold on. Daybreak is on the way.
