Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Red And Gold 101519” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.
The morning sun breaks over the ridge above my home and is greeted by the birds. I noticed light playing outside my window and felt the urge to go out and greet the sun with the birds. I followed the light around my yard as it danced on the water in the creek and lead me to the a little sweet gum tree on the edge of forest. The sun crept through a gap in the still green leaves and lit up the single red and gold leaf on the gum tree. I felt as though God were standing the grinning and telling me “Look at what I did!”
The bicolored leaf stood out and brought to mind the thoughts of candle flame.
I marveled for a moment as I raised my lens and captured the flame that lit my soul.

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Water Colors 1” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.
A cool misty rain sweeps through the hills of West Virginia on a late October morning. My schedule is rarely this open so I allow the big blue truck to take me wherever it wants to explore. No. I haven’t upgraded the truck to a robot. I don’t need to in order for it to speak to me. For those who attuned to the road just know what their vehicles are saying. Sometimes they want to race. Sometimes they want to slowly cruise and enjoy the sunshine. But if it’s a four wheel drive it’s likely to be in the mood to explore and maybe throw a little bit of mud into the air. On this particular day my truck suddenly decided to see what was on a side street and took me off the main highway. I struggled to hold him back as we traveled down the narrow lane. Then my big blue truck urged me pull into a parking lot where we found a Sassafras tree in full Fall glory. You may not believe it but four wheel drive trucks have a sixth sense and instinctively know where to find beauty in nature. I pulled up as close to the tree as I could and took out my camera. “Roll down my window down!” The truck urged. I had already planned to shoot from the cab so I could keep the lens clean but I allowed my truck to believe it was his great idea. Then he whispered, “God paints our world with watercolors.” As I observed the mists collecting on the red, orange and yellow leaves I knew what he meant.

I shot several different angles and settings and became so inspired by the beautiful leaves that I created a special one to post to Lloyd’s Lens Photography on Facebook.
Image Titled “God Paints With Watercolors”
I had to remove the post because Facebook deemed it to be spam and as most people who admin a business page knows there’s no appeal. If the algorithm gets you then that’s it. All we can do is wait to see if Facebook decides to take down the whole page. Now, the only reason why I even bring this up is because I have had so much positive interaction with different Facebook groups that I’ve shared with for the past few years. For those who are relying on seeing my posts come up in group feeds there’s a pretty good chance that Facebook will no longer allow me to deliver the blog to you that way. But if you enjoy my blog and my stories then you can sign up for my daily email at the bottom of my Welcome Page. As time goes on I’ll be adding other social media platforms like MeWe.com and putting more effort into things like Pinterest and YouTube and Twitter but for now be blessed and if you enjoy the photos or the stories please leave a comment in the comment section of my blog and let me know where you saw the post.

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Kanawha Falls In Amber” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.
The morning mists now linger well into the afternoon as the rain gently lands in Kanawha River. If it wasn’t for the tiny splashes of rain the water above the hydroelectric plant would have given a perfect reflection of the amber leaves rising out of the falls. The trees that grow on the rocks out in the middle of the river have defied all odds to claim this spot where the water often rages through and threatens to tear them from the rocks. And yet not only are they able to hold themselves in place but, they do so with grace and beauty. Their roots may be shallow but they are strong and they hold tight to the rock.
To survive and even thrive in harsh conditions is an accomplishment but to do so with enough grace that it imparts a sense of peace is real strength.
The big blue truck provides a nice window to soak in the tranquility as I idled in the parking lot of the Glen Ferris Inn. It’s so much easier to appreciate the beauty of a cool Fall day with heater on. I Hit the button that rolls down the window and began to shoot as the water carried my cares over the falls and washed them out of sight downstream.

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Panning For Gold” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.
The leaves fall gently into Little Elk Creek and are carried down to the Gauley River. I can smell the moss growing on the edge of the water as I kneel down to get a better look at the tiny golden rafts as they pool beneath the towering giants on the line between my yard and the forest.
The little minnows that dart around my portion of the creek have already headed for the deeper waters if the Gauley. They’ll not be back until Spring and usually return with the frogs in May. There’s a few small white fall Asters that linger in sunny spots and I still see the odd bee here and there. As I watched the leaves floating in the eddies a blue jay suddenly becomes aware of my presence and cries out as he circles overhead. The crows also fly over one by calling out three times that man is in the area. This doesn’t really seem to bother the songbirds and they continue their chorus in the thinning canopy. The recent rain has softened the forest floor but I can still hear the squirrels moving through the fallen leaves. Occasionally I see a bushy tail pop out from behind a tree.
The breeze has changed from balmy to chill and damp and I know that more rain is on the way. The camera in my hands is weather resistant but not weatherproof and so I snapped a few shots and returned to the house.

The soft rain falls steadily from from the darkened sky. Late fall and early winter in the Appalachian Mountains of my West Virginia home is usually marked by gray skies. Most of fall leaves are now on the ground but a few cling to the branches above. As the world around me swims in cold mists of the season a single leaf drops from the ridge line above and comes to rest in a pool of water near my home. As it floats in the pool against the dark background the mists collect on it’s surface. The leaf is from a Yellow Poplar and so is the seed that floats on the right side of feature image. I was struck by simple beauty of the scene that God created before my very eyes and preserved it forever in my lens.
I have given tonight’s feature image the title “Panning For Appalachian Gold” not just because of the yellow color of the leaf but because of the economic importance of the lumber. Yellow Poplar is a fast growing tree and is used to make plywood for building materials. The logs are peeled in layers on a giant lathe and the resulting sheets are cut to standard sizes. Knots are cut out of sheets and plugs are planted firmly in their place by a hydraulic press. The sheet are then stacked so that the grain of the wood is transverse with the adjoining layer making it very strong. When people think of West Virginia they normally associate our state with the coal industry but the timber industry is also one of our biggest resources. It’s gold that actually grows out of the ground.
