Satisfaction And Doing

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Buzz About Autumn 92421” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

The warm autumn sun flows gently into the mountains of Appalachia. There’s still plenty of life to be lived in the highland delta. It was Lao Tzu that said “Nature does not hurry. Yet everything is accomplished. ” This past week I’ve taken a que from nature in a personal construction project. It’s the type of work that I haven’t done in a couple of decades. Building a form for cement where there is no place to anchor. Laying out rebar and mixing cement by hand. And being totally exhausted at the end of the day. I didn’t rush my world. That’s not a typo. Although the work was more physically demanding in my 50s than it was in my 20s and 30s it was also more pleasant. I’d forgotten the meditave quality of building something. The simple actions of a project that demands just enough mental energy to escape from the influences of the outside world is somewhat of a refreshing experience. Human beings are builders. Absent of the demand of a production schedule labor becomes almost unnoticed as a person enters “the zone”. Like the humble little bee whose peace of mind comes from living her purpose we too need to fulfill a drive to be active for our own needs. And while I certainly didn’t break any records in my project I did have that satisfied feeling of accomplishment at the end of it. It’s would seem that dirty hands leaves one with a peaceful heart.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Winds Of Hope

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Winds Of Hope 91921a” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

I stand on the edge of the wetlands and close my eyes to better speak to and listen closely to the wind that shakes the reeds. The language of wind isn’t one of verbs, nouns and pronouns but one of scent and touch. I asked what was was coming and the wind says northwest and cool as it shifts slightly. I open my eyes to see the silvery messenger floating in the breeze. That wich only a few days ago was clothed in purple is now born in the wind on silver threads. The sweet aroma is no more and only dry thorns remain to attest to former glory. And yet before my eyes hovers the promise of new hope and expected beauty of a renewed season held aloft by silky threads and propelled by the changing breeze. The flower must die to give birth to the seed. And it’s the seeds that carry hope into the amber glory that will be Autumn. This is the secret of being an immortal soul in a temporary world. We don’t mourn that wich cannot last but reach out in faith for that which will be. Hope is a seed cast into the breeze and faith is the hand that guides and grows it.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

A Quiet Moment In September

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Dutchman’s Pipe Vine 92021” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page

The forest is quiet as enter my little sanctuary. A breeze gently shakes the boughs above and the trees cast off a few untimely leaves into the creek below. Each ripple is the ticking of a clock counting down the next 48 hours to the first day of fall. It’s not unusual for me to spot the great blue Heron that stalks the waters this time of year but today he’s a no show. The last hummingbird is spotted less and less and my instincts tell me that she’ll soon be enroute to whatever home in the deep south waits with joy and longing for her arrival. Or perhaps she’ll travel even further into the equator and grace the branches of the jungle.

The light falls on my Dutchman’s Pipe Vine and I pray that it hosts a few eggs of the Pipevine Swallowtail that will overwinter and bring a glorious Spring with blazing blue wings. I carefully tread the moss covered ground to sneak a peek but this particular Vine yields no secrets yet. Not to worry. Where there’s one Vine there’s others undiscovered and plenty of options for the mothers who host to them. Across the stream I have Goldenrod and have spotted the Swallowtail butterflies visiting them. Nature will not waste the opportunity to introduce the butterflies and the vines. For now, I’m content with just sitting among the ferns and absorbing the last few hours of summer.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Evening Gathering

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Evening Gathering 91421” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

Shadows awaken as the last rays of the sun spill over the mountains and softly settle into the landscape. With only minutes left until the the cool blanket of night covers the forest all of the little bees waste no time in completing their tasks. I stand on the edge of the lawn and watch as the flowers sway with their tiny visitors. Behind me is the buzz of a hummingbird as she makes her way to the feeders. They say you should take your feeders down in September but I generally leave mine up until the jewelweed stops blooming. Jewelweed is a natural food source for the little hummingbirds and as long as they are blooming removing the extra food source only makes the hummingbirds have to work harder to build energy for their long flight. She doesn’t stay long. Just a few sips and she’s off again. The bees continue their work to build reserves for the coming winter and they don’t miss a single bloom. The Asters will bloom here well into December and even into early February if they grow near large rock to hold the heat of the sun. Time slips from our grasp the same as the evening dew flows from the pedals of our wildflowers. Like the little bees we have to make the most of each day.

Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.
