A Little Tranquility By The Waterfall

Hello Friends! Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Tranquility 22420” and is available for purchase by clicking the thumbnail and reaching out to me on the contact page.

In the quiet moments there is clarity of mind and spirit. It’s that recharge moment when we can push back the noise of the outside world and remember ourselves as we truly are. As I stand before the little waterfall I can smell the fresh air. The falls are not particularly large nor do they drop a great distance. But they do carry peace and tranquility. The gentle sound of trickling water hitting the pool washes out the clutter of messages that invade the mind on a daily basis. Sometimes we wonder where all the great thinkers are? Where are the inventors and philosophers? The enlightened ministers? All the great minds of the past seem silent today. But the truth is that they haven’t really gone anywhere. They are us. It’s just that I in the past our minds were free from the constant distraction of competing messages from media and the internet. There was less pressure to be something else on someone else’s behalf and our time was our own. We could find our questions and sort out our answers. All of the famous Greek Philosophers advised us to spend time in nature and still the mind. It’s my belief that if we can just a few minutes every day to enjoy a waterfall or listen to the birds or even just find a quiet place to let the wind touch us that it does wonders for our mental and spiritual health. Be at peace in your life. Good night friends and be blessed throughout your days.

Morning Serenity

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Morning Serenity 31520” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The new day greets the big blue truck with a cool mist as we roll down the Midland Trail into the Kanawha Valley. The roads through the mountains are lined with little waterfalls and moss covered rocks that bring the feel of an arcane world that lays just inside the boles of nearby trees.
In truth, the little waterfall is right on the main road and like most of roads here there’s just enough room for me to completely leave the highway and be comfortable setting up my gear. I am aware of the traffic as the other cars surge past on their way to the daily grind but my focus is on the water as it cascades from the rocks. The contrast between the flowing water and the static stones brings a soothing feeling to the hurried morning. The sound of the trickling water and the smell of the fresh green moss soaks into the core of my very being and for a moment I am at one with God through his handiwork. The connection brings peaceful contentment and the strength to get through the rest of the day.

Time And Perception

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Kanawha Falls 3920b” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

The evening light lingers just a while longer as I step out of the big blue truck with my camera. The constant hum of the hydroelectric plant can be heard over the roar of the falls as I extend the legs of my tripod. I have become obsessed with capturing the silky essence of overflowing water as it pours out over the dam and across the rocks. The secret of pulling peace from the chaos of the crashing water is time. In today’s world of instant gratification and high speed communication it’s easy to feel like you’re being overwhelmed and pulled under. That’s when it’s important to take control of the time and slow things down a bit. We all have a time machine in our heads. If you have ever been in an accident or had an event that happened quickly when you play it back in your head you see the effect of the time machine working. Think about that cup of coffee that was knocked off of the edge of counter. Does it play back in slow motion? As a teenager playing football I was a tackle. Tackles aren’t really known for handling the ball. My hands were like bricks but the one time that I caught the ball it seemed to just hang in mid air waiting for my brick-like hands to find their grasp. I learned that night that most challenges are simply a matter of perception. My perception of time had slowed down and given my body a chance to react. I have had the same experience with a vehicle accident giving me the chance to adjust the speed and angle of impact that allowed me to walk away from the wreckage by minimizing the force of the collision.

In both of these incidents the time perception phenomenon was reflex and instinct. It’s not really something that most people can do on purpose. But when I think about it, most of life’s problems are not so urgent as to trigger the reflex. But that also means that a person can take a deep breath and observe the patterns correctly. In the vast majority of life there’s more time than perceived and knowing the patterns means predictably. Predictably means that a plan can be made and a plan keeps things silky smooth.

Finding Sanctuary

Hello friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Angel’s Alcove” and is available for purchase by following the instructions at the bottom of the article.

Certain places sure seem to have a pertonality of their own. We go to a place and there’s something special about it. It’s like the very landscape itself welcomes your presence. Sometimes it seems that if you’requiet enough that you can hear the voice of God speaking peace to your spirit and saying, “Come child. Sit with me for a while and I’ll settle the storms for you.” I have the strong belief that the world was created just for our benefit. Later, the perfect work of God was sabotaged by Lucifer setting up a chain reaction that is still unfolding by our perception. Envy, strife and destruction and a litany of negative effects cascade throughout the universe except where God is present. Here in these sheltered places there is peace even if only for a moment. We can be recharged and restored enough for the next leg of the journey in these natural sanctuaries. But the green leaves and flowing water only set the mood. It’s the presence of God that brings the healing power. What’s more is the He’ll come to you wherever you are and no matter how dark the gathering clouds are or how much the wind blows there’s a sanctuary in God’s presence.

A Way Of Escape

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Quiet Moments ” and is available for purchase by following the instructions at the bottom of the article.

Sometimes all you can do is “go with the flow”. Not everything is going to be in our control. In fact most things are never going to be in our control. But what we can control is our reaction to circumstances. Now it’s honesty time here. I have not quite mastered the art of the smooth reaction to frustration yet. But I’m working on it. It’s not big things that get me. It’s the army of little things. I can be the person who remains calm at traffic accident generally speaking I know what to do and tend to take charge. But when that mosquito is buzzing in my ear… well, that sense of inner peace is totally busted. And if there’s more than one at a time or if they just keep coming that’s when I really need to go somewhere and repent… again. I used to marvel at all the older guys of my grandfather’s generation. They all seemed to be able to handle anything no matter what. Big things or a multitude of little things it didn’t seem to matter. They took it in stride. Was it because that with age testosterone levels wain and with that is the loss of aggression? Or, was it that fact that they were all World War Two veterans and battle hardened to point that nothing shook them? Certainly, these factors played a role in making them who they were. Being men of faith, they all had a rich spiritual life and there’s no doubt in my mind that was a big part of helping them keep their cool.

I often speak about those quiet places and moments when I have written posts to share with you. But the real secret is that it’s in these spots and times that I get to reset myself. It’s where I go to escape from the proverbial mosquitoes that won’t stop buzzing in my ear. I hope that in some way that I’ve been able to bring you along with me through the visual of my photos.

Tonight’s Feature looks like it’s some far away stream in the untouched portion of my Appalachian Mountains. In fact, it’s about fifty feet away from the main highway. Now, we’re not going to escape from the real mosquitoes here but those proverbial ones don’t seem to be able to leave the pavement. My point is that when things start to get to you that there’s usually a place to escape from the little things that come all at once. And, sometimes the best way to get that peace back is to remove yourself from the situation and spend some time with God.
