Renewal In The Forest

Hello Friends! Tonight’s feature image is titled “Box Elder In Macro 4220” and is available for purchase by the instructions at the bottom of the article.

My little forest sanctuary is rapidly changing as days grow longer. It’s said that Nature can’t tolerate a vacuum and Box Elder that is the shade tree in my yard is her accomplice. Every open spot where I don’t really mow now has a new Box Elder growing. Most are seedlings like the one in tonight’s feature image. As the master of my property I have some choices. I can remove the seedlings in an effort to maintain the open space or I could let nature take course and see what happens. The young seedlings have a market value and I have them in abundance. I could probably donate a few to a group that is interested reforesting waste areas. I’m sure that if I wanted to put the time and effort into it that there’s at least a dozen options.

I have the distinct impression that this spot was once as thick as the rest of mountain but at some point in the past something disrupted the status quo. Who knows what ancient tree was removed from the spot in the past? The only constant thing in this world is chang. Whatever changed in the past before I acquired the property removed the things of the past but also made it possible for new beginnings.

Our world is the precipice of major disruption but be encouraged. The vacuum left in the wake of change is our chance to shape the future. All it takes is for us to look at the options and set a course.

Hey Friends! Just a quick reminder that graduation will be here before you know it. Lloyds Lens Photography is available for portraits!

New Leaves 2019

Hello Friends!Tonight’s feature image isn’t titeled. I’m still happy to sell a copy (instructions at the bottom of the page) but tonight I’m keeping it simple.

As I pulled into the parking lot of my day job the moment I’ve been waiting for all month happened. I spotted the first green leaf on the little Bradford Pear. The appearance of leaves on the tree means that the Fall to Spring cycle is complete. It’s seem that the old saying about March coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb will hold true again this year. I have followed the little tee for almost a full year now it it’s not failed to provide something of beauty in all four seasons. From this point I should start to see the rest of forest start to wake up. I’ll have a lot of work to do to get as many photos in as can for Forage Friday. Tomorrow night will be Forage Friday 2 and I really haven’t decided on which one I’m going to do. I have a few to choose from at this point. (If you missed Forage Friday 1 you can click on the blue letters and catch up)

Tonight I just wanted to celebrate the green leaves a little. It’s those simple things that bring us the the most joy. Fresh air, sunshine and new life.

Bright Days In Spring

Hello Friends!Tonight’s Feature Image is titled “Purity In Spring” and is available for purchase by following the instructions at the bottom of the page.

The magnolia bloom continues open all along the Kanawha River. Some are past their prime already. They’ve been bruised by the recent rain and more is expected to arrive in the morning. But for a brief period when I needed it most the sky turned bright, the clouds rolled back a beauty returned to the gray world. The star magnolia was only the first to open. At this very moment the pink magnolia is beginning to catch up. The blooming seems to ripple out from Smithers. As I’ve travelled the Midland Trail between Gauley Bridge and Charleston I’ve seen the magnolia trees opening one by one. It’s almost like God set them up as dominoes so that we’d be able to enjoy them throughout the season. Not one little detail has been overlooked. The rain may be returning but for now I have delicate white flowers and and bright sky to enjoy.

The Rise, Fall And Rebirth Of A Giant.

For centuries the giant stood on the banks of the beautiful Kanawha River at Glen Ferris and watched over the villages that sprouted up along the water. It laughed silently along with the children who played beneath it’s branches. It glowed along with the young lovers that swooned and stole kisses in the park. It kept the secrets that were whispered in it’s presence. It held the hearts that were engraved in it’s bark. The giant old tree loved the presence of the people so much that it grew a bench from it’s roots in hopes that the villagers would come and share the stories of lands beyond the mountain tops. But all things must change eventually. One day the skies grew angry and poured their rage into the river and even a giant couldn’t withstand the torrent. The giant fell with a thunderous crash. And yet, when we look closely at the stump we can see hope rising again. A single twig still continues to stretch out towards the sun. And love lives again. It’s said that strong roots gives us the strength to survive but it takes more than strong roots to rise again. It takes determination and love.

Taking The Next First Step (One year of blogging and updates to my website)

Sam:
If I take one more step, I’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been.

Frodo:
Come on, Sam. Remember what Bilbo used to say: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling where you might be swept off to.”

Tonight’s Feature Image of the Fayette Station Bridge made me think of the quote from The Lord Of The Rings. Sam’s hesitant attitude about taking the first farthest step kinda resonates with me. It difficult thing to leave your comfort zone. Or, should I say expand your comfort zone? When I started Lloyd’s Lens Photography a few years ago I wasn’t really sure how it would go. Would my work be accepted or my writing be understood? I didn’t really know. But what I did know was that there was only one way to find out. My friends and family came out in force to support me at my first art show. After a couple of years it was time for the next first farthest step and I got my first website. Which I broke shortly afterwards. It’s not a sin to fall down. It is a sin to stay down after you fall. So I moved to WordPress and started over. Yesterday was my one year WordPress Anniversary! I want to thank all of my Subscribers and Facebook followers for the wonderful encouragement that I’ve received over the past year. I would not have been able to keep it going without you!

So, what’s the next farthest step for me? I’m currently building a print on demand page with Zazzle for people who are interested in purchasing an image. The daily posts are never going away and not every image will make it into the online store. However, the ones that do will just be a click away and will be available as a wider range of products and ship directly from the production facilities.

In addition to the prints I’ll be able to offer greeting cards, puzzles, stickers, magnets and more!

My blog posts will continue to be spam free. ALWAYS! The only difference will be an extra link at the bottom of each post that takes you to my online store.

Thank you again for all of encouragement and compliments. I will endeavor to provide my best up front for your enjoyment.
